ÁTVR announces layoffs and restructuring measures in Iceland’s alcohol regulation agency

ÁTVR, the Icelandic Alcohol and Tobacco Regulatory Authority, has announced a series of operational restructuring measures aimed at improving efficiency. This includes layoffs of nine employees and job reassignments for four others. Two store managers have been offered positions as supervisors.

According to Sigrún Ósk Sigurðardóttir, the deputy director, two wine stores in the capital region will be managed by larger stores, leading to the elimination of the store manager role. She noted that the store managers at these locations have been given the opportunity to transition to supervisory roles.

This restructuring mirrors a system that has been in place at the Smáralind wine store for several years and aims to enhance managerial integration and staffing at the wine outlets. The roles of assistant store managers were also discontinued in four locations to streamline operations.

Sigrún Ósk explained that these actions align with government directives focused on increasing efficiency within public operations and addressing changes in the external environment. Overall, ÁTVR currently employs approximately 480 staff members and is taking these steps to adapt to ongoing challenges.
