Nimbus closes production facilities in Kuopio and Luoto, affecting 140 jobs

Monday 30th September 2024 on 10:59 in Finland

Swedish boat manufacturer Nimbus is shutting down its boat production facilities in Kuopio, North Savo, and Luoto, Ostrobothnia. The company cites overcapacity in non-premium boats as the reason for the closure. This decision affects 140 employees, most of whom have already been laid off due to weak demand.

In a statement, Nimbus indicated that the market for small boats is challenging, and the company has been experiencing significant losses in this segment for several quarters. In recent years, Nimbus has shifted its focus toward premium boats, a strategy underscored by the closures of its Finnish factories.

Nimbus acquired the Kuopio-based boat manufacturer Bella in December 2018. Bella-Veneet was established in 1970 by Raimo Sonninen, who dedicated his life to the company.

The news of Nimbus’s factory closures was first reported by Savon Sanomat.
