Chilly temperatures cause frost warnings across Finland as autumn approaches

Monday 30th September 2024 on 09:39 in Finland

As autumn approaches, the country experienced a chilly night, according to Yle meteorologist Matti Huutonen. In southern Finland, including the Åland Islands, temperatures dipped below freezing, while in Lapland, it was about five degrees Celsius. The week begins under high pressure, with clear skies and sunshine expected across the nation. However, Lapland will experience some winds, with light rain arriving from the southeast.

Tomorrow, a cold front will pass over the north, leading to generally cooler temperatures overall. In the south, temperatures are around ten degrees, while the north hovers around five degrees. Overnight frost is anticipated, particularly in the northern regions, and in some southern areas as well.

Huutonen notes that this unusual September, marked by numerous hot days, will end under fairly normal conditions. “Nothing drastic is on the horizon. The week will be dry and sunny, but drivers should be cautious of potentially icy conditions during the early morning hours,” he advised.
