A municipality cannot afford to spend a substantial amount of money on plot development when there are existing plots without any construction. This situation forces the municipality to reallocate resources for new developments, despite numerous undeveloped plots, stated Tórbjørn Jacobsen, the mayor of Runavíkar municipality.
The municipality has now begun the process of reclaiming plots where the two-year deadline for construction has elapsed, affecting around 30 plots in total.
A recent large-scale municipal survey by Kringvarpi shows that housing options in Runavíkar municipality could be improved. According to the survey, 22% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the housing options, while only 15% reported being satisfied. Overall, the municipality received a score of 47 out of 100 regarding housing availability, compared to a national average score of 44.
