Hearings continue today at the Helsinki District Court regarding charges stemming from a police case published by Helsingin Sanomat in 2021. Today’s proceedings will involve testimonies from the accused.
According to the prosecutor, the article was defamatory towards a police officer and handled aspects of the officer’s private life in a manner that caused suffering. The prosecution is seeking conditional imprisonment for the journalist who wrote the article, as well as for editor-in-chief Antero Mukka, citing severe defamation and the serious invasion of privacy.
For the former editor-in-chief Kaius Niemi, the prosecution is calling for a fine for a breach of journalistic duties. All defendants maintain their innocence against the charges.
