Aalborg Carnival has trained its first 24 volunteer team leaders, DR reports. The volunteers will receive their certificates at a ceremony on Saturday afternoon, after completing the final module of the programme.

Each May, around 2,500 volunteers help run the carnival, which draws tens of thousands of participants through Aalborg’s streets. The new training programme is intended to strengthen volunteers’ opportunities within the organisation and benefit local clubs and associations that support the carnival and provide volunteers.

The association behind Aalborg Carnival developed the programme over three years with the Nordjyllandsfonden foundation as part of a new volunteer strategy. The foundation, formerly known as Spar Nord Fonden, contributed one million kroner to the training.

Spokesperson Jeanett Kaare said the first group of team leaders would now gain experience while the organisers evaluate the programme and consider how to improve it.
