Workers in the municipality of Hornafjörður have announced an indefinite strike, set to begin on Wednesday, October 2, at 11:00 AM, unless negotiations yield results. The decision follows a strong majority approval for the strike among members of the AFL union, with approximately 85% voting in favor, 11% against, and 2.6% abstaining. Voter turnout was considered satisfactory at 62%, with 124 union members eligible to vote.

The strike will affect nearly all municipal institutions. Hjördís Þóra, the union’s chairperson, expressed satisfaction with the voting outcome, highlighting the workers’ resolve to stand firm in negotiations regarding their terms. She emphasized the importance of solidarity among union members as they approach this critical phase of discussions.
