Many children are now engaged in activities from a young age, even as young as kindergarten. There are undoubtedly numerous benefits for children participating in hobbies, and parents often seek to bring joy to their children through these pursuits. Psychologist and psychotherapist Leea Mattila previously noted that the choice to engage in these activities should ultimately belong to the child. If a hobby occupies most of a child’s free time, parents should carefully monitor their child’s wellbeing. Mattila also emphasizes the importance of parents listening to both their child and themselves regarding these activities.
We are exploring the experience of children being made to participate in hobbies against their will. Were you ever forced to engage in an activity you did not wish to? We invite you to share your experiences using the form below. Please note that responses will be used solely for this article, and personal information will not be shared with third parties.
What hobbies did you have as a child? Do you still participate in them? What made those activities no longer enjoyable? Have you communicated to your parents that you did not want to pursue certain hobbies? How did they react? Please provide your name, although we will not publish it without your consent.
Additionally, we would like to know your age and the city where you reside. Would you be willing to discuss your situation further in an interview? Yes/No
Please leave your contact information even if you are not selected for an interview. We will not quote your responses without reaching out to you first.
