Numerous errors were made during the construction of the residential facility at Myrin in Hoyvik, according to a new report from the National Audit Office.
The Ministry of Social Affairs did not receive the building as requested, neither in quantity nor quality.
The report concludes that several significant deficiencies existed at the time of handover, preventing the building from being fully suitable for its intended use.
Specific issues highlighted by the Ministry of Social Affairs include:
– The access ramp intended for the upper floor was not constructed. – There were doorways in the building, despite the presence of users with mobility challenges who rely on wheelchairs. – The doors from the rooms to the balconies were too narrow for wheelchair access. – The planned railings were not installed as requested by the Ministry of Social Affairs. – The bathrooms did not comply with regulations for individuals with disabilities; neither sink nor shower installations met the required standards. – Flooring was not completed as specified by the building committee. – The parking area had been paved with asphalt, although it was agreed that it would be grassed.
The report from the National Audit Office indicates that the National Works Agency made decisions independent of the building committee. Evidence in the case suggests that the National Works Agency acted in ways that should have involved consultation with the building committee.
