New developments have emerged regarding the mysterious object, referred to as a “mötikkä,” found at the construction site of the Crown Bridges in Helsinki’s Hakaniemi district. On Friday morning, the communication team for the Crown Bridges reported on social media that they had investigated the concrete object using a drill. The drilling revealed that the “mötikkä” is hollow inside, and the hole was enlarged to resemble the shape of a vase designed by renowned designer Alvar Aalto.

The concrete structure was uncovered on Wednesday during excavation work at the site. Initially, it was unclear whether the object was solid or hollow. As of now, its true nature remains a mystery. In the coming days, plans are in place to insert a camera into the object for further investigation.

Lauri Hänninen, the communications manager for the Crown Bridges project, informed Yle on Wednesday that the City of Helsinki, HSY (Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority), Helen (the local energy company), and telecommunications operators do not recognize the structure as belonging to them. The discovery has sparked curiosity and speculation, but a definitive explanation has yet to be found.
