Teollisuuden Voima revises maintenance schedule for Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland

Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) is revising the scheduling of annual maintenance for the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant units, extending the timelines. Until now, schedule estimates have been based on the expected duration of planned tasks. The new approach also accounts for potential delays caused by unexpected repairs.

“Our obligation is to provide the electricity market with as accurate an estimate as possible regarding when our units will produce electricity and when they will not,” stated Johanna Aho, the communications manager at TVO. According to Aho, this shift in scheduling was prompted by a review of past annual maintenance activities and the unexpected issues that arose during those periods.

“This is a more realistic estimate of the duration of annual maintenance for the market,” Aho noted. This spring, all units at Olkiluoto experienced delays beyond the planned schedules, resulting in electricity production being at reduced capacity for several months. The new scheduling approach will increase the reported duration of annual maintenance across all units.
