Helsinki opens Finland’s longest bridge to tram traffic
Tram service on Helsinki’s Crown Bridges is due to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Yle reports. The broadcaster is following the opening ceremony and plans to stream it live from 9.30 a.m.
New tram lines 11 and 12 will use the route. The first tram is scheduled to leave Korkeasaari stop, cross Kruunuvuori Bridge and continue towards Yliskylä.
Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov is among those due to speak at the opening. At about 1,200 metres long, Kruunuvuori Bridge is Finland’s longest, highest and most expensive bridge. The project includes around eight kilometres of new tram track.
The bridge opened to pedestrians and cyclists in April.
