Police in southeastern Finland have suspended their investigation into who leaked confidential information about a criminal investigation involving Antti Pelttari, the secretary general of Finland’s Parliament, Yle reports.

The leak concerned Parliament’s consideration of whether to suspend Pelttari, a former head of Supo, Finland’s Security Police, from office. Confidential details emerged in an article published by Helsingin Sanomat on June 17, 2026.

Police said they suspected that someone had provided a journalist or another outside party with confidential information from an ongoing preliminary investigation, potentially committing an offence under Finland’s secrecy laws.

The investigation was suspended because police had not identified a suspect and knew of no further investigative steps likely to produce relevant evidence. According to Yle, police asked several members of Parliament’s administrative committee whether they had leaked information or knew of any leaks. Police sent a questionnaire to at least some committee members and deputy members in winter 2026. The committee has 11 members and deputy members in total.

Police said they could resume the preliminary investigation if new information emerges. The investigation has not been concluded, so its materials are not public.
