Finland’s Defence Forces are searching a pond at a golf course in Hanko for a suspicious object that may be a wartime explosive, police say. Yle reported that the course was closed on Friday after the object was found.

The West Uusimaa Police Department said Defence Forces personnel were at the course, while police were not. Police said the object was not suspected to be a drone.

HanGolf, which operates the course, said on its website that authorities would carry out inspections and any necessary safety measures. The course can reopen once the area has been confirmed safe.

HanGolf chief executive Lena Haanpää said the course would be open as usual on Saturday, but declined to comment on the situation.
