Heartland has agreed to buy buildings and land at financially troubled Aarhus Airport, a facility on Djursland, in a deal DR reports will help avert its closure.
The company, owned by billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, will pay 90 million kroner for the airport terminal, hotel, parking areas and remaining land around the civilian part of the airport.
The sale is intended to strengthen the airport’s finances, which have been under pressure for several years because of low passenger numbers. The three municipalities of Aarhus, Syddjurs and Norddjurs will continue to own Aarhus Airport A/S and run the airport.
The deal follows the airport’s sale of its runway and control tower to the Danish Armed Forces in December 2025. Aarhus Mayor Anders Winnerskjold said the airport needed cash and that the alternative was bankruptcy.
The airport has also faced a deadline to repay a 200 million kroner loan to Aarhus Municipality by December 13.
