Copenhagen Zoo has stocked animal feed and installed an emergency power system to protect its animals during a crisis, DR reports.
The zoo cares for 220 animal species and thousands of individual animals, all of which need feeding every day. Staff prepare 200 different menus daily, and the zoo keeps general supplies for several days as well as some specialist products for almost a year at a time, said director Mads Bertelsen.
The backup power system is intended to help keep animals safe if the electricity supply fails. Without power, some animals could become too cold or too hot, and incubators could stop working, Bertelsen said.
If a serious crisis occurred, the zoo might have to replace some ingredients, but Bertelsen said it was prepared to provide the animals with the food they need for their welfare.
