A proposed four-star hotel at the head of Hvalfjord would include 25 rotating guest cabins, with most of the buildings made from prefabricated units. Morgunblaðið reports that the plans have been submitted to Iceland’s planning portal for review.

The portal gives interested parties an opportunity to submit comments or opinions before the Housing and Construction Authority decides whether the project requires an environmental assessment.

The hotel, named Hugarró Nature Retreat, is planned for Litla-Botnslandi 1, an undeveloped 12-hectare property near the old Botnsskál. It would have 32 hotel rooms and 25 circular guest cabins that can turn with the sun. The development is planned to accommodate up to 200 guests and would also include a restaurant and nature baths.

The total building area could reach 5,000 square metres. Documents say most buildings would be manufactured abroad as prefabricated units, transported to the site together and assembled on foundations prepared in advance.

The documents say the approach is intended to reduce construction work on site, shorten the building period and limit vehicle traffic, material deliveries and other activity during construction.
