A nicotine shop in downtown Mosfellsbær has removed prominent window advertising after the town demanded changes, mbl.is reported.

Mayor Hilmar Gunnarsson said the town had required the property owners to address the signs because they did not comply with regulations. Signs of this kind require a building permit, he said.

The owners were given several days to find a solution. “They responded quickly and well, and deserve credit for that,” Gunnarsson said. He added that he was pleased to see the signs gone so soon after the town raised its concerns.

The advertising at the Nikulás shop had prompted complaints from residents, partly because of its conspicuous appearance and proximity to Framhaldsskólinn í Mosfellsbæ, a high school. Gunnarsson said the town would raise the issue and stressed the importance of care when marketing products that appeal to young people. He also thanked residents for their comments.
