Partíbúðin, a party supply store, was crowded on Friday as people made final preparations for Halloween the next day, mbl.is reported. The queue wound through the shop, but staff kept service moving quickly, store manager Valgerður María Gunnarsdóttir said.
Halloween, once mainly a celebration for children and teenagers, now draws people of all ages, Gunnarsdóttir said. She had served both children and elderly customers that day.
Despite the long queue, customers do not have to wait more than 10 minutes, she said, adding that the staff are accustomed to the Halloween rush.
Vampire costumes are popular this year, with strong demand for fake blood and vampire teeth. Inflatable costumes are also selling well, and the store has stocked a wide selection. Some groups of friends are coordinating their outfits, including one group of women planning to dress as angels in different colours.
