Iceland, nuclear weapons, People's Party

Heimir Már Pétursson, managing director of the People’s Party parliamentary group, has apologized for a post on X urging French President Emmanuel Macron to send troops to Ukraine and have nuclear weapons ready, mbl.is reports.

Heimir said his wording, especially the reference to nuclear weapons, was indefensible. He has deleted the post.

In a statement sent to media, Heimir said the post reflected his personal opinion and had no connection to his work for the parliamentary group or to the party’s policies and values. He also said he regretted that the post had been associated with the People’s Party and apologized to his party colleagues.
