People of all ages crowded into Partíbúðin, a party-supplies store, on Friday as they put the finishing touches on their Halloween costumes, mbl.is reports. The queue wound through the shop, but staff kept it moving quickly, store manager Valgerður María Gunnarsdóttir said.
“It seems to be becoming the most fun holiday of the year. Everyone is taking part, and their grandmother too,” she said. Halloween was once mainly a holiday for children and teenagers, she said, but people of all ages now join in. She had served both children and elderly customers that day.
Despite the crowds, Gunnarsdóttir said customers should not have to wait more than 10 minutes. The store has plenty of staff, she said, who are used to the Halloween rush.
Vampire costumes are popular this year, with strong demand for fake blood and vampire teeth. Inflatable costumes are also selling well. Gunnarsdóttir said she was unsure why they were so popular, as they could be uncomfortable and often had to be deflated to get through a doorway.
Groups of friends are also coordinating their costumes. Gunnarsdóttir cited a group of friends planning to dress as angels, each in a different colour. Wings of various kinds have also been popular.
