Police believe young adult killed in Orimattila crash was driver

Police believe the person killed in a crash in Orimattila was driving the car, Yle reported. Three passengers, all around 20, remain in hospital.

The car left Highway 4 early on Sunday, October 18. Police say it was travelling at a considerable excess speed, although investigators cannot yet estimate the speed precisely.

The car crossed the motorway’s central reservation, continued over a forest road passing beneath the motorway and eventually hit the edge of an embankment, according to earlier information.

Police are investigating suspected aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated causing of death and injury, and driving while intoxicated. They are also conducting an investigation into the cause of death. Police said the inquiry would continue as needed, taking into account the death of the person suspected of an offence.

Police also warned people not to get into a car with a driver showing serious disregard for traffic safety and road rules.
