Icelandic party official urges Macron to ready nuclear weapons
Heimir Már Pétursson, director of the parliamentary group of Iceland’s People’s Party, urged French President Emmanuel Macron to send troops to Ukraine and have nuclear weapons ready for use, mbl.is reports.
Heimir Már made the comments in English under a post Macron published on X on Thursday, following a Russian attack on a railway station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. At least 14 people were killed and 14 injured, according to the article.
Macron expressed condolences to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people, and called for greater efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. He said it was unacceptable for Russia to continue attacking civilians and rejecting peace proposals.
“Dear Macron, stop making speeches and send troops to fight for Ukraine and Europe, and have nuclear weapons ready to fire immediately,” Heimir Már wrote.
Heimir Már has frequently commented on international affairs on X, including on posts by Kremlin critic Garry Kasparov. He has also discussed the results of the European Parliament elections and criticised the US government for friendly relations with the Russian government.
He took up his current role in February last year, having previously worked for years as a journalist at Stöð 2 and Bylgjan. mbl.is said it was unable to reach him for comment.
