The state is seeking up to 10,000 square metres of office space for government agencies in the capital region, mbl.is reports. At 16 square metres per employee, the largest option could accommodate about 625 people.

The state property agency FSRE has issued a market consultation on the government tender website about a possible long-term lease. The estimated need is between 5,000 and 10,000 square metres, enough for around 313 to 625 employees. The premises would be leased for up to 25 years and handed over ready for use, without movable equipment.

The agency is looking for modern, flexible offices within an urban centre in the capital region, with particular emphasis on access to public transport and good access for pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities. The premises should also be able to accommodate a shared reception area, canteen and meeting facilities, and have sufficient parking.

The preferred handover period is 12 to 24 months after the lease is signed. Offers for premises that can be delivered in stages will also be accepted.

FSRE will decide on next steps after the consultation. The announcement does not identify which government agencies would use the premises. The deadline for submitting information about available properties is November 26.
