Hare hunting season opens in the Faroe Islands on Monday, but no hunting will be recorded this year, KVF reports.
Eyðfinn Magnussen, a biology lecturer at the University of the Faroe Islands, studied Faroese hares and hare hunting for 13 years before stopping in 2024. He will not record the catch this season, though he continues to follow the hunt closely.
The number of hares shot has varied from 4,000 to 9,000 a year, averaging 6,500, Magnussen said. The season runs from Monday, November 2, to December 31.
