Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen has asked the finance committee for an additional 800,000 kroner for vaccinations, on top of the two million kroner initially requested, KVF reports. The new vaccine against pneumococci costs three times as much as the old one, which is now too old to use.
The requested funding covers vaccinations against coronavirus and pneumococci, as well as RSV vaccinations for pregnant women. There are also plans to expand HPV vaccination. Vaccine costs and payments are expected to rise, while the vaccination forecast in the proposed 2027 budget does not account for those increases.
Pneumococci are bacteria that can cause serious illness, including meningitis.
