The Faroese labour market remains in prolonged negotiations as mediators work almost without pause to bring unions and employers to new agreements, broadcaster KVF reports. Former Starvsfelagið union chairman Jákup Danielsen says the parties themselves might be more willing to compromise if they had to pay for mediation.
Although talks are progressing smoothly in many areas, Danielsen says the market as a whole remains in limbo because so much negotiating time and energy, particularly from the Mediation Institution, is being devoted to specific agreements. He also says the parties are no longer taking steps in their industrial disputes.
Danielsen was assessing the current situation in the labour market.
