Icelandair is considering increasing the number of seats in its Saga Premium cabin after revenue from the fare class rose 35% over three years, mbl.is reported.
The airline said the number of passengers buying Saga Premium tickets rose 18% from the third quarter of 2023, while the number of Saga seats increased 9%. The company added seats to four of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft this summer, and seat occupancy has risen during the period.
Passengers from outside Iceland account for 84% of Saga Premium customers. Icelandair chief executive Bogi Nils Bogason said the company was considering adding more seats in the coming periods. He said Saga seats generated the most revenue per square metre of cabin space.
Figures cited from Lufthansa showed that premium economy seats generated 33% more revenue per square metre than standard economy seats and 6% more than business class seats. Saga Premium is Icelandair’s premium economy class, below business and first class.
