Police have completed their preliminary investigation into a resident’s death at a private care home in Turku and referred the case for consideration of charges against four employees, Yle reports.
All four are suspected of causing death through negligence and abandonment. Police were called to the care home, Otso, after the patient died in December.
The deceased person’s relatives said the elderly resident was tied to a chair at the time of death. Police investigated whether negligence, failure to act or other unlawful conduct had contributed to the death.
Investigators examined how laws, guidelines and regulations governing patient care applied in the case, as well as the responsibilities involved, said lead investigator Riikka Laaksonen, a senior detective.
