Five Colombians remain in custody in cocaine cases
Five Colombian nationals, including a family of three, remain in police custody in two cocaine-smuggling cases, mbl.is reported.
The family arrived in Iceland early on July 29 and was arrested at Keflavik Airport with 2.4 kilograms of cocaine. The following day, customs officers stopped two other Colombians arriving from Spain; they had 1.7 kilograms of cocaine in their luggage.
Police said in August they were investigating links between the two cases. Earlier this month, the investigation was reported to be complete, and authorities sought to extend the detentions, which were due to expire on October 5.
In a written response, the Suðurnes police said detention in one case had been extended until October 30 and in the other until November 2. Police did not say when the cases would be heard at Reykjanes District Court.
