Simon Bendtsen will become editor-in-chief of Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet with immediate effect, DR reports. He succeeds Knud Brix.

Bendtsen joins from business news outlet Finans, where he has held the same role since 2024. Before that, he worked at Berlingske.

In 2019, Bendtsen shared the Cavling award with his Berlingske colleagues Eva Jung and Michael Lund for their reporting on the Danske Bank money-laundering scandal.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, Bendtsen said he was very much looking forward to the job. He said he was humbled by the challenge and the newspaper’s history, and that he and its staff would now begin defining its future.

Brix is returning to DR to become a correspondent based in Nairobi, Kenya, from early 2027. Bendtsen will be Ekstra Bladet’s third editor-in-chief since Poul Madsen left the role in 2021. Henrik Qvortrup held the position before Brix.
