An open meeting on how to allocate a 5.3% share of fishing quotas set aside to support jobs and communities across the country is scheduled to begin at 11:45 today, mbl.is reports.

Eyjólfur Ármannsson, Iceland’s infrastructure minister, will attend the meeting of Alþingi’s business affairs committee. He has said he plans to introduce a bill on the quota pool, known as the regional development share, shortly after the New Year.

He also plans to submit a separate bill on coastal fishing to parliament next month.

The meeting will take place at Smiðja, a venue at Tjarnargata 9 in Reykjavík, and is open to the public while space allows. It can also be watched via livestream on Alþingi’s website and television channel.
