The Finnish Defence Forces wants to buy one million anti-personnel mines from domestic manufacturers, Yle reported, citing the STT news agency. Production in Finland is targeted to begin in 2028.
Preparations for the procurement began after Finland’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Treaty, which bans anti-personnel mines, took effect in January, Colonel Riku Mikkonen, an explosives inspector at Army Command, told STT.
Mikkonen said about half a dozen Finnish companies could produce the mines. Around 100 million euros has been earmarked for the planned purchases.
