Grímur Grímsson, an MP for Viðreisn, has been elected chair of Alþingi’s Foreign Affairs Committee, mbl.is reports. He was elected at a committee meeting on Thursday morning, replacing fellow party member Pawel Bartoszek, who has become chair of Viðreisn’s parliamentary group.
Grímur represents the Reykjavík North constituency and has served in Alþingi since 2024. He was the parliament’s second deputy speaker in 2025 and has served on the Foreign Affairs and Budget committees since 2026. He has also been a member of the Welfare Committee from 2025 to 2026, the General and Education Committee since 2025, and the Constitutional and Supervisory Committee in 2025.
Since 2025, Grímur has chaired Iceland’s section of the parliamentary committees for EFTA and the EEA. He has also served on the Iceland-EU parliamentary committee since that year.
Bartoszek was recently elected chair of Viðreisn’s parliamentary group, replacing Sigmar Guðmundsson, who is on leave and expected to return shortly. Grímur was then elected secretary of the group.
