A Danish man acquitted of money laundering by the Faroe Islands’ district court has been convicted by the Landsrættur, the appeals court, KVF reported. He received a five-month suspended prison sentence.

The man was convicted of both particularly aggravated money laundering and attempting to commit particularly aggravated money laundering. He had denied the charges.

The court found that he laundered 481,366 kroner, which he had with him when he was arrested in the Faroe Islands. He had received the money in cash there, and it was meant to be transferred to Denmark. Prosecutors believe the money came from drug sales.

Between May 31 and June 3, 2021, he bought electronic equipment from two shops in Tórshavn for 97,500 kroner and returned it the following day. One shop transferred some money to him, while the other paid him in cash.
