Finland’s Digital and Population Data Services Agency is asking people named in a public notice, mostly aged over 100 and living abroad, to contact it by January 22, 2027. Yle reported the agency’s announcement.

The notice concerns people whose deaths have not been officially recorded in Finland’s Population Information System and whose later circumstances are unknown to the authorities.

Relatives who know whether anyone named in the notice is alive or has died are also asked to contact the agency by 4.15pm on January 22. If no legal obstacle is raised by the deadline, the agency will declare the people named in the notice dead.

The agency publishes a similar notice every year to help keep the population register up to date.
