Crash seriously injures one and closes Hellisheiði

One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision on Hellisheiði, mbl.is reports.

The road was closed in both directions because of heavy ice. Þrengslavegur remained open.

The collision happened shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday, according to Magnús Ragnarsson, a chief superintendent with the South Iceland police. He said several other traffic incidents had occurred nearby. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
