Fake texts falsely tell recipients a relative has died
SOS Alarm has warned about fake text messages claiming to come from the organisation, SVT reports. The messages falsely say that a recipient’s close relative has died in an accident, and police are investigating.
The texts say nobody was available during a home visit to be told about the death. They name the person said to have died and include that person’s personal identity number, SOS Alarm said in a press release.
“This is an extremely tasteless and repugnant activity that SOS Alarm strongly condemns,” said Anders Fredriksson, the organisation’s security chief. He urged anyone who receives a similar message to report it to police.
It is unclear how many people have received the messages.
