The government should honor its agreement on port charges, Sands Mayor Kristian Oskar Henriksen said, joining other mayors in opposing a proposal to abolish fees for the national ferry service, KVF reported.
Sands Municipality has an agreement with Strandferðslan, the ferry operator, that cannot be terminated before January 1, 2028, Henriksen said. Under the proposal, the municipality would lose about 63,000 kroner a year, a significant sum for a small municipality.
The ferry Sildberin operates the route between Sandur and Skúvoy.
