Three tips to navigate autumn holiday traffic
Heavy traffic is expected on Danish roads as the autumn holidays begin, DR reports, with peak travel times and roadworks likely to cause delays.
The Danish Road Directorate expects many drivers to take to the roads. P4 Traffic host Anne-Sophie Kroman said the busiest period is expected on Friday from 2pm to 6pm, when holiday traffic will mix with rush-hour traffic. On Saturday, traffic is expected to be heaviest around midday. Drivers who can leave before 11am or after 2pm on Saturday may avoid the busiest period.
For the return journey, drivers are advised to avoid Saturday, October 17, between 11am and 2pm, and Sunday, October 18, between 2pm and 6pm.
Watch for bottlenecks
Eastbound-to-westbound traffic could face bottlenecks, particularly on Zealand’s West Motorway between Køge and Storebælt, and on the motorway around Odense.
Construction work is also under way on the E45 near Kolding to add an extra lane. Drivers may encounter lower speed limits, changed traffic arrangements and periods of congestion.
Check traffic abroad
Drivers heading to Sweden, Norway or Germany should check traffic conditions before setting off. Germany is expected to see heavy holiday traffic as several states begin their breaks. The motorists’ interest and consumer organisation FDM says more than 1,100 roadworks are under way on German motorways, which could add to journey times in some places.
Drivers staying in Denmark can follow the Danish Road Directorate’s live traffic map or listen to P4 Traffic.
