Viðey hosts 20th lighting of Yoko Ono’s Peace Column
Yoko Ono’s Peace Column in Viðey will be lit for the 20th time at 8 p.m. on Friday, mbl.is reports.
Reykjavík City says the event will include a peaceful ceremony, music by Árný Margrét, an address by the mayor and organised walks. The Viðey ferry and bus journeys from Reykjavík City Hall will be free, but registration is required.
The Peace Column was created by Ono and erected in Viðey in 2007. She dedicated the work to her husband, John Lennon, and it is illuminated from his birthday on October 9 until the anniversary of his death on December 8. The city describes it as a reminder of the importance of promoting peace, particularly while wars are being fought around the world.
