Child seriously assaults boy on church confirmation trip

A young boy was seriously assaulted by another child during a church confirmation trip to Vatnaskógur last weekend, mbl.is reported. The trip was organised by Háteigskirkja, a church, and the church is working to support the children and their parents.

Pastor Helga Soffía Konráðsdóttir said the incident was extremely serious and involved beatings. The boy contacted a parent after the assault and went home.

The matter is being handled by both the police and the church, Helga Soffía said. She was due to meet on Wednesday with parents of some of the children who took part. A total of 52 children joined the trip through Háteigskirkja.

The trip is part of an annual confirmation course held at Vatnaskógur, attended by churches from the capital region and elsewhere in the country. “We are trying to take good care of everyone affected by this and support them,” Helga Soffía said.
