Tækniskólinn approaches Garðabær over new school campus

Representatives of Tækniskólinn, a technical school, have recently contacted Garðabær municipality about possibly developing a new campus there, mbl.is reports. Almar Guðmundsson, Garðabær’s mayor, confirmed the discussions.

No potential location has been discussed. Guðmundsson said several planning and financial issues would need to be considered alongside the location.

Tækniskólinn has been seeking land for a new school since an agreement with Hafnarfjörður municipality fell through after the municipality failed to deliver a plot in time.

RÚV reported yesterday that nine municipalities had offered land for the new school and that Tækniskólinn had held informal talks with Garðabær.

“We are very pleased that Tækniskólinn has approached us, but we need to assess from all perspectives whether this is something we want to take further,” Guðmundsson said.
