Sjóvar municipality plans new sports hall in Strendur

Kringvarp Føroya reports that a new sports hall in Strendur is expected to be completed within three years. Sjóvar municipality’s council is due to approve the building programme at a meeting on Thursday, after which the project will be put out to tender.

The hall is planned for a location south of the community hall in Strendur.

Mayor Hans Anders Jacobsen said the project was a long-held dream. Strendur is a handball community, and the hall is expected to be used mainly by Stranda Ítróttafelag, known as StÍF.

StÍF has played its home matches at the sports hall in Skála for more than 40 years.

Jacobsen did not say how much the new hall would cost, but said he hoped it could be completed in about three years if everything goes according to plan.
