Tampere fatal collision involved two men born in 1940s

A pedestrian killed in a traffic collision in Tampere on Sunday and the driver whose car hit him were both men born in the 1940s, Yle reports. The crash occurred on Epilänkatu near Mustikkaniemi.

The pedestrian died at the scene. Police suspect the driver of causing death and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.

Alcohol or other intoxicants were not involved, police said. The driver remained at the scene after the collision, and police and emergency medical services soon arrived, according to Sami Suhonen, a detective chief inspector and the lead investigator at the Central Finland Police Department.

Police are continuing to investigate the causes of the collision through interviews and are examining the driver’s actions before the crash. Investigators know of one eyewitness, but anyone with further observations can still contact the police.
