Engine oil spill closes underpass for about an hour
Traffic through an underpass where Hálsavegur runs beneath Vesturlandsvegur was blocked for about an hour after a passenger car leaked engine oil, mbl.is reports.
A firefighter at the scene said the leak appeared to have started after a part of the car failed, causing oil to spread across a considerable stretch of the road. A substantial amount also leaked as the vehicle travelled through the underpass and into a nearby parking area.
The road reopened after a cleanup vehicle had finished its work and it was considered safe to resume traffic. The firefighter said ordinary passenger cars can hold up to five litres of engine oil.
