Police investigate suspected attempted murder after Tampere stabbing
A man was stabbed late on Saturday evening in Koskipuisto, a park in central Tampere, Yle reports. The adult victim remained in hospital on Sunday morning, and police said they did not yet know how serious his injuries were.
Police received a report of the stabbing at around 11pm, when the park was crowded with people.
An adult man suspected of the attack was arrested a few hours later. No other suspects have been identified so far. Police are investigating the stabbing as an attempted murder.
The investigation is still at an early stage. Police have not yet interviewed witnesses and are also reviewing surveillance camera footage from central Tampere.
Detective Chief Inspector Heikki Järnström of the Central Finland Police Department said the night was exceptionally busy for police in central Tampere. Officers took a large number of intoxicated people into custody and also handled cases related to domestic violence.
