Grótta, a sports club, said it was deeply saddened by a serious incident involving coaches from Grótta and KR at a meeting of the Swimming Association of Iceland on Thursday, mbl.is reports.

In a statement posted on the club’s Facebook page for athletes, coaches, staff, volunteers and other members, Grótta said it would not discuss the incident in further detail out of consideration for everyone involved and for the two clubs. The club said police had responded quickly and that the case had been referred to the appropriate authorities.

The case is being handled by the communications adviser for sports and youth activities and by police. Anyone who believes they need support because of the incident’s consequences can contact the adviser.

Representatives of Grótta, KR and the Swimming Association of Iceland are in contact with the adviser and will not comment to the media. “The case is at a very sensitive stage, and it is important that we support one another. We are all receiving assistance from professionals because of this,” the statement said.
