Bogi Jacobsen leaves Varðin after long career

Bogi Jacobsen has stepped down as chief executive of Varðin following a departure agreement with the company’s board, Kringvarp Føroya reports. He said he would rather leave yesterday behind and remember his long career with the group, adding that he still cares deeply about Varðin.

The announcement came as a surprise to most people. Varðin’s statement said only that Jacobsen and the board of P/F Varðin had agreed that he would leave his position as chief executive.

Jacobsen is the son of Jákup Jacobsen of Syðrugøta, also known as Dunga Jákup. His father helped found the Varðin shipping company with Tummas Thomsen in 1985. Jacobsen sailed on the company’s vessels for many years before taking charge of the Varðin Pelagic pelagic processing plant, which was being built in Tvøroyri, about 15 years ago.

In 2020, he succeeded his father as chief executive of the entire Varðin group.

With equity of 2.1 billion, Varðin is among the largest companies in the country. The group owns several pelagic vessels, several vessels in the demersal fleet, a pelagic processing plant in Tvøroyri and other land-based operations across several industries.
