Military activity in the Faroe Islands’ surrounding waters also affects the country, so it should take part in such exercises, Foreign Affairs Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen told broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

His comments come ahead of a military exercise in Vestmanna next week. The exercise, Lion Protector, is being conducted under British leadership.

Lion Protector is also part of Arctic Endurance, a NATO initiative led by Denmark.

Arctic Endurance aims to strengthen NATO’s presence in the Arctic and the northern regions.
